HISTORY

Former City Mayor Soledad C. Eusebio envisioned Pasig to become a “premier” city in the metropolis upon assuming her office in 2001. Now a progressive city, Pasig boasts itself as a center for commerce, a cradle of urban living and a seat of learning. Part of the mayor’s projects in the education sector is a free and valuable education for all Pasigueños. Having all the resources, she also believed that it is not impossible for the city to have a special science high school just like other municipalities of Metro Manila. Imbued with this vision, the former mayor spearheaded and pursued the dream project in collaboration with the education sector of the city. Thus, a new science high school was born. With the support and determination of former Mayor Soledad C. Eusebio, Hon. Mayor Vicente P. Eusebio, and the members of the City Council, the school was founded on October 7, 2004 by virtue of City Ordinance No. 28, series 2004. It was named the Pasig City Science High School. The school formally opened in school year 2005-2006 using temporarily the fifth, sixth and seventh floors of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig building.

Mr. Noel A. Salalima became its first Principal. Ms. Edna H. Negru and Ms. Mila I. Jose were appointed as the Head Teachers together with the first batch of faculty composed of nineteen (19), competent, special science teachers. Four (4) support staff aided the administrators. During its maiden operation, the school accommodated a total of 276 enrollees out of the 300 projected scholarship grants yearly.  Females dominated the males – 184 against 92.  All scholars came from both private and public elementary school in the city who is bonafide residents of Pasig City. They have undergone and passed rigorous admission tests which include written tests, an extensive evaluation of the academic grades in grade school (candidate must have an average grade of 85% with no grade below 80% in all subjects), and series of interviews. The full scholarship program includes the provisions for free textbooks, bags, shoes, notebook and a monthly allowance.

In summer of 2006, the school transferred to its new and permanent site –a six storey building nestled at the Rainforest Park.  Facilities include upgrade type of classrooms, offices, library, restrooms, speech laboratory, computer laboratory and four well-furnished science laboratories.  A strategic place for a science high school, Rainforest Park offers the most conducive place of learning among the scholars.  The park itself is one, big laboratory for them.  To ensure quality learning, class size is limited to 30. As a symbol for a leaning institution, a school logo was necessary.  Mr. Noel A. Salalima, its first Principal, conceptualized and designed the school’s emblem. Mr. Gilbert D. Malcolm drew the conceptualized design. Mr. Noel A. Salalima composed the school hymn, and Mr. Eric Elvi R. Bagamasbad set its music. Pasig City Science High School’s curriculum is geared towards students’ excellence in Mathematics, Science and Technology.  Unlike other science high schools, Pasig City Science High School’s curriculum is patterned after the curriculum of Philippine Science High School. Pasig City Science High School, upon its establishment, is a dream school of the city government of Pasig. Anchored on its thrusts which embodied in its mission and vision, the school is a learning institution at the same time a home for scholars who will be future leaders and scientists not only for a brighter Pasig City but of the entire nation as well.
